What's Happening in AgTech

AG TECH ACADEMY AT PIEDMONT HIGH

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Piedmont High School Ag Tech Academy is to provide students with
engaging, hands-on opportunities to discover their passions in agriculture and technology.
Through leadership, teamwork, and innovation, we will prepare students for a successful future in the agricultural industry and beyond.

REQUIREMENTS :

  • MAINTAIN A 2.5 GPA IN ACADEMY CLASSES
  • NO DISCIPLINE REFERRALS
  • MAINTAIN A ‘B’ IN ALL AGRICULTURE CLASSES
  • JOIN PIEDMONT FFA CHAPTER

PATHWAYS OFFERED:

SUSTAINABLE PLANT SYSTEMS

Students will be focusing on plant systems such as botany, greenhouse production, floral design, and landscape maintenance. Students will also learn leadership skills and participate in the local FFA.
Students who focus in animal science will learn the basics of animal systems, commercial animal production in NC, and how to care for animals. They will also participate in leadership skills and the local FFA Chapter.

ANIMAL SCIENCE/ PRE-VET

Students who focus in animal science will learn the basics of animal systems, commercial animal production in NC, and how to care for animals. They will also participate in leadership skills and the local FFA Chapter.

AGRICULTURAL MECHANICAL SKILLS

Students focusing in Agriculture Mechanics will start by learning the basics of welding, woodwork, electrical trades, etc. These students will also take several classes in automotive services. They will also learn leadership skills and be a part of the local FFA Chapter.

AGRICULTURAL BUSINESS

Students in this pathway will be dual enrolled with SPCC. They will take their agriculture courses offered at Piedmont High School, and business classes through SPCC. They will graduate with an Agribusiness
certificate.

These courses are flexible, however, to receive full completion of a pathway in the Ag Tech Academy will
require a minimum of 2 specified courses each year of high school. There is a great deal of flexibility your senior year with course selection.

To meet the requirement for FFA membership some years Academy students will have to supplement an agriculture class as an elective.
